It Takes 5 Billion Years To See Every Planet In ‘No Man’s Sky’

No Man's SkyHello Games’ No Man’s Sky has been receiving quite a bit of hype ever since it was announced due to its unique gameplay and visuals. In the game you have the ability to explore the near-infinite bounds of space, with each planet being unique from the last.

Every game has to have a limit, right? Well, sort of. In an interview with IGN, Hello Studios’ co-founder Sean Murray said that it would take approximately 5 billion years to see everything in the game.

Yup, that’s a pretty long time.

No Man’s Sky is being developed for the PlayStation 4 and PC and is set to be released sometime next year.

Xbox Doesn’t Want Rare Brand To Only Mean ‘Kinect Sports’

Kinect Sports TennisI think just about everyone who is able to hold a video game controller knows that, when Microsoft acquired Rare back in the early 2000’s, the company never lived up to their past successes. This company’s last few games developed are Kinect Sports, Kinect Sports: Season Two and Kinect Sports Rivals

Pretty smelly, right?

Well, these are the same dudes that were once responsible for such classics as the Donkey Kong Country series, Golden 007, and Banjo Kazooie, to name a few. So, what in God’s name has happened to this once-great developer?

Who knows and he won’t tell me.

However, Xbox head Phil Spencer has gone on record that the once great developer Rare will not remain a creator of only Kinect games. He said the following to CVG at Gamescom:

“I think it’s about them thinking about the next game that’s going to be the next ‘Rare game’ and really stand for what they are. I know they’ve got some great ideas. I’ve not been up to Twycross for maybe six months, but I’m planning on getting up there this fall and seeing bits for the new game. But I know they’re hard at work and Phil Harrison has been up talking to them.”

He goes on to conclude that can be much more than Kinect devs:

“I don’t want the Rare brand to mean Kinect Sports. The Rare brand can be more valuable to them, to us and to gamers than that.”

I think just about anyone on planet Earth would rather have another actual Rare game along the lines of Banjo Kazooie than another crappy Kinect game, so the fact that Xbox will at least acknowledge that that isn’t where they want the developer to remain is good news. Considering the kinect has just been dropped from a new version of Xbox One consoles, maybe the focus is coming off Kinect and this will give them more time to work on something worthwhile.

I hope.

The series began in 1999 with the PC game The Longest Journey, and continued in 2006 with the sequel Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.

The Campaign For ‘The Evil Within’ Lasts 15 To 20 Hours

TheEvilWithinCampaignThis October Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami will be releasing what will hopefully be a return to a classic survival horror style that had been missing from Resident Evil for some time now. Regardless of quality, we now know that the game will pack a pretty solid running time. According to Bethesda Europe PR manager Alistair Hatch, it’s not a game that can be beat in a couple of days.

Hatch said the following on twitter:

“We expect The Evil Within campaign to last 15-20 hours depending on play style and difficulty mode.”

To make matters even better, they also revealed that there will be 3 story-based DLC packs after launch, with one of them focusing on The Keeper and the other 2 on the protagonist’s partner Julie Kidman. Along with these packs you will get new maps, enemies and horrifying scenarios to get sucked up in.

The Evil Within is being developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. The game is set to be released on October 17th, 2014.

Silent Hills Kojima

‘P.T.’ Is Actually A New Silent Hill Game From Hideo Kojima Called ‘Silent Hills’

Sony innocently enough released a demo for a horror game called P.T. at Gamescom, with many just assuming it was another horror game in a recent slew of horror games.

Well, they were wrong. Upon completion of the demo, it is revealed that P.T. is actually a new entry in the Silent Hill series called Silent Hills that is being developed by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro, with actor Norman Reedus being the protagonist.

There aren’t any other details about the game yet, but you better believe more will be coming very soon. This is huge news, as Hideo Kojima is one of the most acclaimed developers in video games today and i’m beyond excited to see what he brings to the series. The game utilizes the PlayStation 4’s touch pad for various gameplay mechanics and to traverse through the game’s incredibly imaginative and vivid world. It’s from the creators of LittleBIGPlanet known as Media Molecule, so any charm contained within is entirely expected.

New 'Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain' Trailer Shows Off The Cardboard Box

Metal Gear Solid V Cardboard BoxIf you’ve played any game in the Metal Gear Solid series, then you’ll know that the cardboard box is a pretty important element when it comes to stealth. Well, that particular element got the spotlight at today’s Gamescom event, where Hideo Kojima went into detail about what the infamous box is now capable of in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Yes, you read all of that correctly.

As I mentioned, the trailer shows off all of the new things that you can do with the cardboard box. You are now able to pop out of the top of the box, fire at an enemy and then hide back inside the box, display various pictures on the exterior to distract enemies, and even jump out of the side to sneak away while the enemies attention is focused on the box. As you can imagine, there is a hell of a lot you can do with this box.

Other than that, though, there wasn’t much more to say about Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, unfortunately. We know that it’s coming sometime next year, but an exact date is unknown. The game is being developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Check out the new trailer below.

‘inFAMOUS: First Light’ Gets New Gamescom Trailer

inFAMOUS First Light

inFAMOUS: Second Son remains the best reason to own a PlayStation 4 right now, and that great game is getting a standalone DLC story called inFAMOUS: First Light. The DLC got a new trailer at Gamescom today, which shows off some gameplay and cinematics.

First Light stars Abigail “Fetch” Walker, who was an important ally to Second Son‘s Delsin. She has special neon powers that allows her to move very quickly and rapidly shoot foes from a distance. The game seems to be an exploration on her background and her powers.

I’m all for more inFAMOUS: Second Son content, but i’m a little skeptical on what this DLC has to offer, from a gameplay perspective. Fetch was a great character that had awesome chemistry with Delsin, but Delsin eventually acquires her powers and masters them pretty well. Is this DLC just going to re-use the same abilities we’ve already used in Second Son? I’m hoping that isn’t the case and fans get some new ways to play in the inFAMOUS world.

inFAMOUS: First Light releases on August 27th for the PlayStation 4. Check out the trailer below.

Sierra Is Officially Alive Again, Planning New 'King's Quest' For 2015

Last week we were all teased with a Sierra logo that hinted that the company may be coming back from the dead, and now we have the confirmation that it is all true.

The original founder of the company, Ken Williams, said the following:

“We’re very proud of what we created all those years ago with Sierra Online, and today’s news about carrying Sierra forward as an indie-specific brand is very encouraging.”

He goes on to mention their immediate game plans:

“We look forward to seeing Sierra’s independent spirit live on, and are especially excited to see what The Odd Gentlemen will do with King’s Quest.”

Sierra was a classic gaming company in the late 80’s and early 90’s, so seeing that kind of retro spirit back in the current gaming world will be great. I love the fact that they are focusing on indie developers to bring more attention to those more unique titles, while also re-imagining some of their past classics with current hardware.

No details have been revealed about what will be contained within the beta or how long it will last for as of now.
