From Software's 'Bloodborne' Gets Spooky In New Trailer

From Software showed off a brand new gameplay trailer for their upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive Bloodborne, and in it we get a better look at its sinister world and mysteries waiting within.

The game is heavily reminiscent of the developers’ Souls series and takes place in a town called Yharnam. The town is home to a remedy that has helped many travelers, but it has since become overrun by viscous individuals. Dark Souls Director Reveals More Details About Bloodborne

Bloodborne is one of the most anticipated games that will be coming out for the PlayStation 4 next year, as it is being created by the developers that brought us the fantastic Souls series. Now, the game’s director has revealed a bit more info about what gamers can expect from Bloodborne and how it will differ from the Souls games.

Hidetaka Miyazaki said the following:

“We are still conducting final reviews of the death penalty, though we don’t plan on making it quite so severe. While death will occur often in this game, it’s important that it both does not place too much stress on the players and still makes them want to take on the challenge again, so we are regulating the death penalty with these things in mind.

He goes on to say:

“This is a bit off-topic, but to make sure the player still wants to give it another go, it’s also vital to give them a wide breadth of options in battle. The intention with our design is to provide a rich system that includes weapons such as guns and traps, among others. And while I said you will die plenty in this game, we similarly want to give the player the rush of nearly dying or thinking they are about to die, so we are always considering the best ways to govern this balance.”

My Judgment:

While it’s a little worrying to hear that Miyazaki might be toning down the difficulty in Bloodborne, the new styles of gameplay and the setting still sound intriguing. It will be interesting to see how a wider range of weapons will affect the punishing gameplay that the Souls series is known for.

Bloodborne Director Discusses The Game's Differences Compared To Souls Series

Bloodborne is a new game by Souls series developer From Software that is coming exclusively to PlayStation 4 next year, though little information is known about it. The game’s director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, spoke with Famitsu about what sets this game apart from the Souls series.

“Back in 2012, before the announcement of the PS4, [Sony Computer Entertainment] originally approached us with the idea, ‘would you be interested in making a new game for new hardware?’ so this was never considered as a Demon’s Souls II. For us, the idea of new hardware was appealing and I remember feeling enthusiasm from SCE for a new game.”

He then goes on to discuss the game’s new Victorian setting:

“There are several reasons, the first of which is the combat. We were already thinking of a shift to a combat system where you would enter battle more actively than the sword and shield-based combat of Demon’s. So we adopted the idea of guns, but there was a prerequisite that we didn’t want the game to turn into a shooting game, and the Victorian age fit perfectly. It’s an era where the imagery of old guns still remains.”

It’s worth noting that Hidetaka Miyazaki created the Souls series, though he didn’t direct Dark Souls II so he could focus on Bloodborne for the PlayStation 4.
