Xbox Doesn’t Want Rare Brand To Only Mean ‘Kinect Sports’

Kinect Sports TennisI think just about everyone who is able to hold a video game controller knows that, when Microsoft acquired Rare back in the early 2000’s, the company never lived up to their past successes. This company’s last few games developed are Kinect Sports, Kinect Sports: Season Two and Kinect Sports Rivals

Pretty smelly, right?

Well, these are the same dudes that were once responsible for such classics as the Donkey Kong Country series, Golden 007, and Banjo Kazooie, to name a few. So, what in God’s name has happened to this once-great developer?

Who knows and he won’t tell me.

However, Xbox head Phil Spencer has gone on record that the once great developer Rare will not remain a creator of only Kinect games. He said the following to CVG at Gamescom:

“I think it’s about them thinking about the next game that’s going to be the next ‘Rare game’ and really stand for what they are. I know they’ve got some great ideas. I’ve not been up to Twycross for maybe six months, but I’m planning on getting up there this fall and seeing bits for the new game. But I know they’re hard at work and Phil Harrison has been up talking to them.”

He goes on to conclude that can be much more than Kinect devs:

“I don’t want the Rare brand to mean Kinect Sports. The Rare brand can be more valuable to them, to us and to gamers than that.”

I think just about anyone on planet Earth would rather have another actual Rare game along the lines of Banjo Kazooie than another crappy Kinect game, so the fact that Xbox will at least acknowledge that that isn’t where they want the developer to remain is good news. Considering the kinect has just been dropped from a new version of Xbox One consoles, maybe the focus is coming off Kinect and this will give them more time to work on something worthwhile.

I hope.

New 'Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain' Trailer Shows Off The Cardboard Box

Metal Gear Solid V Cardboard BoxIf you’ve played any game in the Metal Gear Solid series, then you’ll know that the cardboard box is a pretty important element when it comes to stealth. Well, that particular element got the spotlight at today’s Gamescom event, where Hideo Kojima went into detail about what the infamous box is now capable of in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Yes, you read all of that correctly.

As I mentioned, the trailer shows off all of the new things that you can do with the cardboard box. You are now able to pop out of the top of the box, fire at an enemy and then hide back inside the box, display various pictures on the exterior to distract enemies, and even jump out of the side to sneak away while the enemies attention is focused on the box. As you can imagine, there is a hell of a lot you can do with this box.

Other than that, though, there wasn’t much more to say about Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, unfortunately. We know that it’s coming sometime next year, but an exact date is unknown. The game is being developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Check out the new trailer below.

Destiny Beta Progress Will NOT Transfer To The Full Game?!

The answer to the question of whether or not the progress you made in the recent Destiny beta would transfer over to the full game was up in the air for a long time, but now Bungie has an official answer. Unfortunately, none of the progress you made during the Destiny beta will transfer over to the full game when it releases on September 9th, 2014.

Here’s what Bungie had to say on their website about the issue:

“Since the beta, we’ve continued to tune and adjust the game. The way you earn experience has been adjusted up and down a bunch of times. Items have been added and removed. New features toggled. Although there’s no single monumental change, the sum of the tweaks leaves characters from the beta build in strange shape that would be confusing at best, broken at worst.”

Bungie does reaffirm that this will be the last time that you have to start all over again, as the next time you play the game it will be the full package:

“On September 9, you can create a Guardian who will keep you company for a good, long time. On a long-enough timeline, you might decide to delete him or her and start over again – but that will be your call to make.”

Honestly, I can understand why progress can’t be carried over due to all the changes being made, but it’s still disappointing to lose all of the progress made. Still, I had such a blast with both the Alpha and the Beta that i’m more than willing to start from scratch for a third time, only next time there will be a heck of a lot more to do. September 9th can’t come soon enough!

Assassin's Creed Rogue

Assassin's Creed Rogue Coming To Last-Gen Consoles This November

We knew for a while that two Assassin’s Creed games would be coming this year, and when Assassin’s Creed Unity was announced for current-generation consoles it was expected that the other game’s announcement wouldn’t be too far behind. However, a lot of time passed and we still didn’t hear one word about this supposed last-gen exclusive.

UNTIL NOW! Ubisoft has officially announced that the game that will be coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 exclusively is none other than Assassin’s Creed Rogue. The game is set in the middle of the 18th century during the 7 Years’ War and you control a Templar named Shay Patrick Cormac. It was developed by Ubisoft Sofia in collaboration with Ubisoft offices in Singapore, Montreal, Quebec, Chengdu, Milan and Bucharest, and completes the saga that started with Assassin’s Creed III and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue will be coming out for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and is set to be released on November 11th. Check out the cinematic trailer below. [youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lYKqkqPQFU’%5D

Resident Evil REMAKE REMASTER

Resident Evil Remake Being Remastered, Coming Early Next Year

The fantastic Resident Evil GameCube remake that came out in 2002 is getting the remaster treatment. Capcom has announced that they will be remastered the game for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.

As for what this remaster will be doing for the 2002 game, the game is being upgraded to 1080p on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, will have enhanced 3D models and textures, and will contain 5.1 surround sound. The game will also allow you to switch between the game’s original 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9.

Capcom released a video in which two producers from Capcom Japan discuss this new remaster. Check it out below. [youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CpX9vkXsk0′%5D

The Resident Evil remaster is set to be released in early 2015.

Destiny Beta

4.6 Million People Played The Destiny Beta

You might not have been aware of it previously, but a heck of a lot of people played the Destiny beta. How many people exactly? Well, according to developer Bungie, they calculated 4,638,937 users playing the game in total.

Activision revealed has revealed that this amount of people playing the beta of a brand new franchise is a new record for betas, meaning that Destiny’s success when it releases in September is basically guaranteed.

Bungie CEO Pete Parsons said the following about the huge beta success:

“We were totally blown away by the number of people who played the beta. We surpassed even our own goals and the feedback was invaluable. We cannot thank the community enough, the response was humbling and in the weeks ahead we’ll be working hard to ensure that Destiny lives up to the expectations at launch.”

Destiny is set to release on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on September 9th, 2014.

Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare Could Completely Change The Franchise

Sledgehammer has gone on record saying that their upcoming Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare could really shake up the multiplayer aspect of the Call of Duty franchise.

Co-founder Michael Condrey said the following to OXM about the game’s enhanced movement and control:

“We’ve got heavy weapons, which is sort of another new class, verticality through the boost jump – you can imagine what that does to the multiplayer experience, and then cloak, super-strength, and then off-the-controller changes, like the exo-boost and the exo-slide.

He then discusses a new combo the game will feature:

“We’ve got a really great combo now with the boost jump and then a lethal slam from above. We feel like it’s a pretty fundamental change to the second-to-second combat, as well as the broader linear experience that you see in campaign.”

He ends with how he thinks the exo is revolutionary:

“The shotgun is a close quarters weapon. A short ranged, broad angle weapon like the shotgun is pretty ineffective against a player who can boost out of the way really quickly, right? So there are a lot of really interesting and unique challenges and opportunities, and I think when we talk about MP in more detail you’ll get to see that, but the variety that the new controls and the exo bring to gameplay is pretty revolutionary.”

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Release Date Moved Up

Warner Bros. Interactive has revealed that Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor has moved up a week, making it yet another game that is sneaking out of the over-crowded month of October.

The game was originally set to release on October 7th, but now it is hitting North America on September 30th. The game will then be released on PC and Steam on October 2nd.

WB claims that the release was moved up due to fans excitement, but I think it’s pretty obvious that October 7th  was simply too crowded of a release date. The date still hols NBA 2k15, DriveClub and Alien: Isolation, with Dragon Age: Inquisition recently being pushed back to November from its original October 7th release date.

Alien Isolation

The Cast Of Alien Discusses How Alien: Isolation Is A Whole Different Experience

Alien: Isolation is one of many highly-anticipated games coming out in the month of October, and in a new trailer we get to see the cast of the original movie talking about how much different of an experience it is.

Many of them note how in a movie you are just a spectator, but the fact that this is a video game puts you right into the world with no escape. Check out the trailer below.

Alien: Isolation is being developed by The Creative Assembly for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. It is scheduled for release on October 7th, 2014.

BioShock Remaster

Is 2K Teasing A New BioShock Game?

Those teases! The people at 2K have taken to the company’s official twitter account to post an image that brings with it a whole lot of teasing.

The picture in question is a poster from the original BioShock‘s Eve’s Garden. What truly makes this a tease, however, is with 2K’s accompanying caption that reads, “Oooo, what COULD this mean?”

There’s no question that 2K Games is looking at more BioShock in the future due to how incredibly well BioShock Infinite was received, so this could definitely be a hint at an announcement coming soon. Considering this is an image from the original BioShock, maybe we could be looking at a remaster on current generation systems?

Check out the image below.

Battlefield Hardline

Battlefield May Be Transitioning To A 3-Year Development Cycle

EA has stated that the way in which future Battlefield games are developed could be changing.

When asked about whether or not Activision’s move to a 3-year development cycle for the Call of Dute franchise had any effect on how EA is currently handling the Battlefield franchise, EA Studios EVP Patrick Soderlund said the following:

“What they [Activision] are doing mimics to some extent how we’re thinking. Obviously, more time, if managed correctly, yields a better product. So I would say that we’re similarly aligned, and that we’re taking a similar approach, but we haven’t articulated exactly what teams are working [on], because that would imply announcing things that we can’t right now.”

This would be a very wise move for the Battlefield franchise as a whole, because just about everyone agrees that the Battlefield 4 launch was a disaster. With many left unimpressed with what the Battlefield Hardline beta had to offer, it’s probably a good idea for them to take a little more time to fully-realize future installments.

Watch Dogs

Watch Dogs Fan Mod Releases Final Update

There had been a lot of hoopla over the fact that Watch Dogs‘ graphics were downgraded compared to when it was first revealed and what the finished project looked like. This upset many, because they felt that Ubisoft was basically dishing out false advertising by doing a bit of a bait and switch.

However, there is one fan who has taken the matter into his own hands and has been sharing a PC mod that greatly increases the game’s graphics. The gamer goes by the name of TheWorse (real name Frederico Rojas) and he has been releasing updates that have steadily improved aspects of the core game, such as rain effects and vibrancy.

He just posted what he is calling the final update for the game, writing the following on his blog:

“This is the last release of my modification. I did my best to improve graphics and performance as much as I could without degrading quality.”

So, if you’re a PC gamer and are into game mods, you should probably give it a shot. There is definitely some big improvements made, and a prettier looking game for the price of nothing certainly isn’t a bad thing!

Alien: Isolation Crew Expendable Nostromo Edition

Pre-Order Alien: Isolation And Receive Missions Starring The 1979 Movie's Cast

Sega has revealed that those who pre-order Alien: Isolation will get two bonus mission packs that contain the cast of the 1979 movie, Alien. The characters will contain the likeness and voices of the movie’s actors, which includes Sigourney Weaver (Ellen Ripley), Tom Skerritt (Dallas), Veronica Cartwright (Lambert), Harry Dean Stanton (Brett), Yaphet Kotto (Parker) and Ian Holm (Ash).

Pre-ordering the game upgrades it to the Nostromo Edition, which includes these mission packs called Crew Expendable. The missions allow you to take control of Ellen, Dallas or Parker as you explore the sinister Nostromo ship. For the time being, Sega confirms that this content will only be available to those who pre-order the game.

Alien: Isolation creative director Alistair Hope said the following:

“Working with the original cast has been an incredible experience. It was important to us to have the key original cast members reprise their roles in order to perfectly capture the atmosphere of the movie. For some of the original cast, this is their first appearance in an Alien video game. Seeing them reprise those roles after 35 years was an unforgettable experience.”

If you’re in North America and you pre-order the game from GameStop you’ll receive an expansion called “Last Survivor”. Sega says the following on this content:

“On hearing the screams of Lambert and Parker, players must navigate their way back down through the Nostromo in order to activate the self-destruct sequence, before retracing their steps back to the Narcissus shuttle and their escape.”

Alien: Isolation is being developed by The Creative Assembly for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. The game launches on October 7th, 2014.
