Some really surprising and sad news was released today as everyone learned that Jack Tretton, who has been the CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America since its inception in 1995, is stepping down.
Tretton is set to leave his role on April 1st and said the following: “Working at SCEA for the past 19 years has been the most rewarding experience of my career,” Tretton said. “Although I will deeply miss the talented team at SCEA and the passion demonstrated every day by our fans, I’m very excited about starting the next chapter of my career.”
Shawn Layden, who is the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Sony Network Entertainment International, is set to replace Tretton.
Condemn OR Condone:
Tretton has been in that role since I first seriously got into gaming many years ago, so of course it is really sad to see someone who has been around for so long leave. However, he definitely went out on a high note as his 2013 E3 press conference was one of the best I have ever seen and the PS4 remains the hottest console on the market. Good luck in your future endeavors, Mr. Tretton.
