Bethesda published Wolfenstein: The New Order earlier this year, putting a classic franchise back on the winning track. However, we also know that they will be releasing a new game from the classic Doom series in the not-so-distant future. According to Bethesda, they will not be taking any shortcuts in bringing the series back to glory.
Speaking with MCV, Bethesda Marketing VP Pete Hines said the following:
“We are going in as if we need to prove ourselves all over again. We have no free passes. Nobody will assume this is going to be awesome. We are going to have to prove that this is something that’s going to be fun and different that you need to pay attention to. That has to be our default position, we can’t be: ‘It’s Doom, of course you’re going to play it’. But that just makes us work harder.”
Id Software will be developing Doom 4, who were also responsible for bringing the series to life all the way back in 1993. The last Doom game to come out was Doom 3 back in 2004, which was modestly received.
