Epic has revealed that they are releasing their brand new game engine called Unreal Engine 4 for $19.99 a month. This is a big change as previous versions of the engine were limited to bigger studios who could afford to use it.
Epic made the announcement at today’s GDC where they said the following:
“This is our complete engine, with everything Epic provides to leading game developers, priced accessibly for teams of all sizes, budgets and aspirations.”
Another catch of this subscription plan is that whoever uses the Unreal Engine 4 will have to give 5% of the revenue earned from any products that utilize the engine. The tools in the subscription plan are tailored to PC, iOS, Android and Mac. Check out the features trailer below.

Condemn (OR) Condone:
This is pretty exciting news for smaller developers who normally wouldn’t have the opportunity to utilize the unreal engine. $19.99 plus 5% revenue doesn’t sound bad at all for an engine as iconic as the Unreal Engine.
