One of my most anticipated games of the year, The Evil Within, has been given a release date. The return-to-roots survival horror game from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami will be released August 26.
The game is being developed by Mikami and the rest of his team from Tango Gameworks and is being published by Fallout and Elderscrolls publisher Bethesda Softworks.
What makes this game so exciting is that it will be a much needed return to survival-horror gaming roots. Mikami has said himself that his own series, Resident Evil, has strayed from what makes survival horror great, and even though that series is supposedly returning to its roots, as well, it’s great that we are getting an all-new IP to start fresh with. No more near-infinite ammo and enemies that can easily be taken down; instead you will need to conserve your ammo and the enemies will all be big threats just like they were years ago.
The Evil Within releases on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on August 26. Check out the extended gameplay trailer below.
