The answer to the question of whether or not the progress you made in the recent Destiny beta would transfer over to the full game was up in the air for a long time, but now Bungie has an official answer. Unfortunately, none of the progress you made during the Destiny beta will transfer over to the full game when it releases on September 9th, 2014.
“Since the beta, we’ve continued to tune and adjust the game. The way you earn experience has been adjusted up and down a bunch of times. Items have been added and removed. New features toggled. Although there’s no single monumental change, the sum of the tweaks leaves characters from the beta build in strange shape that would be confusing at best, broken at worst.”
Bungie does reaffirm that this will be the last time that you have to start all over again, as the next time you play the game it will be the full package:
“On September 9, you can create a Guardian who will keep you company for a good, long time. On a long-enough timeline, you might decide to delete him or her and start over again – but that will be your call to make.”
Honestly, I can understand why progress can’t be carried over due to all the changes being made, but it’s still disappointing to lose all of the progress made. Still, I had such a blast with both the Alpha and the Beta that i’m more than willing to start from scratch for a third time, only next time there will be a heck of a lot more to do. September 9th can’t come soon enough!
You might not have been aware of it previously, but a heck of a lot of people played the Destiny beta. How many people exactly? Well, according to developer Bungie, they calculated 4,638,937 users playing the game in total.
Activision revealed has revealed that this amount of people playing the beta of a brand new franchise is a new record for betas, meaning that Destiny’s success when it releases in September is basically guaranteed.
Bungie CEO Pete Parsons said the following about the huge beta success:
“We were totally blown away by the number of people who played the beta. We surpassed even our own goals and the feedback was invaluable. We cannot thank the community enough, the response was humbling and in the weeks ahead we’ll be working hard to ensure that Destiny lives up to the expectations at launch.”
Destiny is set to release on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on September 9th, 2014.
As is the case with just about any highly-anticipated game, Bungie has revealed that there will be a special edition for their upcoming FPS / MMORPG Destiny. They’re dubbing it Destiny: The Ghost Edition, and it comes with a whole bunch of stuff that comes to a total of $150.

For those who simply cannot wait to find out what trophies / achievements they will be sinking countless hours towards getting, Bungie has gone ahead and revealed the full list via the new Weekly Update on their website.
The game will have 40 trophies / achievements across all platforms, and appear to be pretty standard fare as far as trophy / achievements go. Some of them ask the player to do things like kill 5 enemies in 3 seconds, while others require you to achieve the maximum crucible score.

Bungie’s highly-anticipated MMO/FPS/RPG, Destiny, is coming to PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, but it has been no secret that the game has been heavily advertised as a PlayStation 4 game. The game is getting content that will only be available on PlayStation 4, while already receiving an alpha and next month a beta that is a time PlayStation exclusive, as well.
Like with any exclusive content, there is usually a timed window for how long that content will remain exclusive. This usually lasts around a few months, though if reports are to be believed then Destiny’s exclusive content will remain exclusive a lot longer.
According to the game’s listing on Amazon, Destiny’s exclusive content will remain exclusive until *at least* Fall 2015. That is a hell of a lot longer than how long timed exclusivity usually lasts, so we’ll have to wait on Bungie’s official word on whether or not this is legit. However, considering how much Bungie seems to be favoring the PlayStation 4 it would not surprise me.
Seeing as I will be buying it for the PlayStation 4, I’m obviously thrilled at the prospect of exclusive content. However, I’m not one of those fanboy douchebags who bashes every other system to try and make myself seem better than everyone else. I own all the systems and I love them all, and I think that everyone should have a shot at everything that Destiny has to offer. PlayStation is definitely the preferential console for this game, but it’s good to know that (eventually) Xbox owners will be able to play the exclusive content, too.
Bungie’s Destiny will be running at 1080p/30fps on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when it releases this September. Of course, everyone is wondering why the game will not be running at the coveted 60fps like many other new-gen games are, and Bungie has now revealed the answer to that question.
Bungie’s Senior Environment Artist, Jason Sussman, said the following:
“It’s a lot of different things. I could get really technical, but I’d bore you to death. A lot has to do with performance. We’re cross-platform, so we had to be very delicate with all four consoles, making sure they have the same experience, that it looks as good as it possibly can on all these consoles. A lot goes into that, from geometry to textures to post effects to particles to how many players you get on the screen. We’re always balancing that out to make sure everyone gets the same experience.”
Destiny will be released for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on September 9th.
The game is still going to look fantastic, so I couldn’t care less about whether or not it can meet 60fps. However, I do wish that Destiny had been a new-gen game from the beginning, because the last-gen systems are definitely holding it back in regards to how far it can go, graphically and technically.

Bungie’s highly-anticipated new game Destiny has a huge scope, but now we’re seeing just how big that scope is reaching, financially.
According to Reuters, at the Milken conference in Los Angeles last week, Kotick revealed just how much money they could end up spending on this truly massive game. He said the following:
“If you’re making a $500 million bet you can’t take that chance with someone else’s IP,” he stated. “The stakes for us are getting bigger.”
This is, without question, an insane amount of money and will be one of the biggest budgets in the history of all of gaming. Reuters was informed that, in order for the game to break even, Bungie would need to push around 16 million copies of the game.
Destiny developer Bungie has gone on record saying that the PvP element of the game will not be available to players when they first load up the game. According to them, that feature will be unlocked after getting a few hours into the game.
The subject came up when Bungie’s Tyson Green did an interview with Eurogamer, where he said the following:
“We found early on that people here in the studio, when they jumped on the game – these were people who were already really familiar with the game mechanics – they would roll a new character, play through the first mission then go right into PvP, and they would just get really beaten up by the other players because they didn’t have a super ability yet and they’d only got an auto rifle from the first mission,”
He goes on to say:
“So when your first character unlocks PvP, you’re a little bit further into the game. You’ve probably done one or two of the campaign missions, probably unlocked a special weapon and your super ability. And then once that’s happened we unlock it for all the characters on your account. Once you know how the game works, if you want to take a Hunter into PvP at level three, yeah, we’re okay with that. You know what the game is at that point, so that’s your decision to make.”
This seems like a really smart move on Bungie’s end. Rather than unlocking PvP from the get go and having a bunch of people rage quitting because they are getting their butts handed to them, let everyone get their feet wet with the mechanics of the game for a few hours before duking it out with others.

Some new trailers were released recently by Bungie that shows off each of the game’s 3 classes; which are Hunter, Titan and Warlock. However, they have just released a new trailer that is montage of all 3 classes, giving a better look at the upcoming mayhem.
The trailer shows off a lot of different kinds of gameplay that reminds me a lot of Mass Effect crossed with Halo, which definitely isn’t a bad thing. The 3 classes all have their pros and cons and it looks like there will be plenty of different ways of handling combat in this game.
This trailer shows off some really impressive action sequences and I really like how their is both first-person and third-person elements to the combat. Everything looks really solid, but there isn’t anything in particular that has really wowed me in the trailer. Thus, my judgment is Condone.
The composer of the Halo series MartyO’Donnell is claiming that he has been fired from Bungie without cause.
O’Donnell posted the following message on twitter:
“I’m saddened to say that Bungie’s board of directors terminated me without cause on April 11, 2014.”
Although O’Donnell claims that there was no rhyme or reason to this parting, Bungie claims that it all happened on friendly terms. Bungie said the following in a statement:
“For more than a decade, Marty O’Donnell filled our worlds with unforgettable sounds and soundtracks, and left an indelible mark on our fans. Today, as friends, we say goodbye. We know that wherever his journey takes him, he will always have a bright and hopeful future.”
Condemn (OR) Condone:
Something is definitely fishy here. If O’Donnell is claiming that he was just let go and Bungie is making it sound like it was all friendly, then it’s obvious there is more this picture. Either there was an argument, artistic differences or Bungie was just plain bored of what O’Donnell was doing, it looks like Bungie just gave him the boot. Doesn’t sound all that friendly, to me.
