While the Tomb Raider reboot was a mild success when it was first released, it didn’t look like it would be very profitable for Square Enix in the long run. Things have turned around big time, though, as Tomb Raider is now set to surpass 6 million sales by the end of the month.
Square Enix boss Darrel Galgher said the following: “By the end of this month we will surpass 6 million units for our Tomb Raider reboot, and, having achieved profitability back in 2013, Tomb Raider has exceeded profit expectations and continues to make significant contributions to our overall financial performance.”
Condemn OR Condone:
Though I never played much of the Tomb Raider games before the reboot, I though the reboot was great. The sense of immersion into that dangerous setting and the fact that Lara was a much more well-developed character made that game end up being one of my favorite games from 2013. This can only be a good thing for the series’ future.
