Thanks to documents that were released by VG Leaks, it is now known that Microsoft passed on a version of a game that would become Sony‘s upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive Rime.
According to the documents, developer Tequila Works asked Microsoft for $3 million for the XBLA game that was then called Echoes of Siren. The plan also would have brought it other Microsoft platforms, such as Windows 8 and Windows Phone.
Microsoft Studios exec Phil Spencer was asked why he passed on it on twitter, to which he replied with the following: “Part of job is living with mistakes. Passed on Guitar Hero…I can list many misses regretfully. I try to focus on what we did ship.”
Check out the trailer for Rime below.
Condemn OR Condone: Sounds to me like Microsoft is missing out on a potentially great game. The final-product isn’t available yet, but it definitely has that creative feel that games like Journey and Flower brought to the table and wowed people in the end. Tough luck.
