Earlier this week we got the surprising news that Irrational Games would be laying off all but 15 of its employs to reboot and focus on other things, which lead many to believe that the BioShock franchise was finished. However, 2K Games has confirmed that the series will continue.
Game Informer reached out to 2K Games to get additional information about this big move, and they replied with the following: “BioShock is one of our most beloved and critically acclaimed franchises, and we are indebted to Ken and the talented team at Irrational Games for their contributions to the series with BioShock and BioShock Infinite; the latter being one of the most decorated games of 2013. The BioShock universe remains a rich creative canvas for many untold stories, and we look forward to exploring the next BioShock experience.”
It was also announced that all of the employees that Irrational Games laid-off will be attending a recruiting day that is being run by the company. This recruiting day is set to have many big developers in attendance, so hopefully everyone will find a new home soon.
Condemn OR Condone: I’m a little mixed on this news. On one hand, it’s great that the series will be continuing as all of the games have been really good. However, with the bones of what made the series so great being removed I wonder if the replacements will be able to retain the same level of quality. Only time will tell, I suppose…
