The Fire Emblem Series Almost Got Cancelled

shhIf the current Fire Emblem game, Fire Emblem: Awakening, didn’t sell over 250,000 copies, the series likely would have been cancelled.shh

This was revealed in an interview in the magazine Hobby Consola, which was posted in the Serene Forest forums. It was said that developer Intelligent Systems was told by Nintendo that, due to the diminishing sales of the franchise, if this game did not perform well than they would end to the series. The Fire Emblem series is over 22 years old.shh

“No doubt. Truth be told, sales are dropping,” said Yamagami. “The sales manager of Nintendo, Mr. Hatano, told us that this could be the last Fire Emblem. Due to this progressive descend on sales, they told us that if the sales of this episode stayed below 250,000 copies, we’d stop working on the saga.”shh

Luckily, the new Fire Emblem game got rave reviews, which resulted in the gaming already selling over 250,000 copies in North America, alone. There have been no announcements about a follow-up to this game, but one can assume that the universal acclaim the game has received has put the series in a good position to continue.shh

Even though I never became a huge Fire Emblem fan, I’m still glad to hear that it looks like it wont be cancelled. The series has been around for a long time, and it would have been really sad to see such a big and loved franchise come to an end. It technically still could come to an end, but I doubt it with how this new game has been received.shh
