John Carpenter Would Love To Make 'Dead Space' A Movie

John Carpenter Dead Space

shhJohn Carpenter, renowned director known for horror classics such as Halloween and The Thing, has expressed interest in making the popular horror game Dead Space into a movie.shh

While speaking with Game Informer magazine, he said the isolated setting of the first Dead Space‘s USG Ishimura would be perfect for a horror film.

“I maintain that Dead Space would just make a great movie because you have these people coming onto an abandoned, shut down spaceship, and they have to start it up and something’s on board. It’s just great stuff,” said Carpenter. “I would love to make Dead Space, I’ll tell you that right now.”

The original Dead Space game came out in 2008, which took the gaming world by storm and so far has lead to two sequels. 2011 brought Dead Space 2, which brought strong reviews, though this year Dead Space 3‘s reaction has been met with less enthusiasm.shh

In the first game, players control a ship systems engineer named Isaac Clarke who must battle his way through a mining starship that is overrun with Necromorphs, which are human corpses reanimated and mutated by an alien virus. The game is really freakin’ scary, with a constant sense of dread for what lurks around the corner, waiting for you.shh

I personally think that it could be made into a solid movie, although it would certainly draw comparison’s to the film Alien. Still, there’s a great story to be told there, and I think if John Carpenter brought his A-game then it could result in something special. Who know’s if he will make it or not, but I’m definitely open to him taking it on.
