Four new games are coming at Xbox gamers for free in August, with two games coming to Xbox 360 and the other two coming to Xbox One.
On the Xbox 360 front we have Motocross Madness that will be available for free from August 1st to August 15th. The game was originally a PC motocross racing game that was re-released on Xbox Live last year. From August 16th to August 31st gamers will have the opportunity to download the critically-acclaimed stealth game Dishonored.
Things aren’t quite as interesting on the Xbox One front. The two games that will be available to download are Crimson Dragon and Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut. Both of the games are types of arcade shooters, though neither one particularly blew anyone away.
Microsoft recently revealed that they have a new version of the Xbox One coming out next month that is $100, but that is not all the news that they are making today. They also revealed that Games With Gold will be coming to the new-gen system next month.
However, there is one caveat that comes with this news. They revealed that Games With Gold will be subscription based, which many assume means that you will not have access to the games you download if your subscription to Xbox Live Gold lapses. Thus differs from Xbox 360’s Games With Gold, as once you download those games they are yours, period.
The games that will be coming to Xbox’s Games With Gold in June are Halo: Spartan Assault and Max: The Curse of Brotherhood. You can download the games on both Xbox One and Xbox 360.
Microsoft has let loose the info on what games will be coming to Xbox Live Gold members as part of Games With Gold this May. Tomorrow gamers will be able to download Dust: An Elysian Tail, and on May 16th gamers will be able to download Saints Row: The Third.
Dust: An Elysian Tail normally retails for $15, where Saints Row: The Third currently sits around the $20 mark. Both were pretty well received, so next month might not be a bad time to jump on the Games With Gold bandwagon.
When Microsoft announced its Games With Gold program, pretty much everyone agreed that it was their answer to Sony’s PlayStation Plus. Both services give some free games every month just for being a subscriber, but Microsoft’s game offerings have been… well… lacking, to say the least.
BUT THAT IS ALL GOING TO CHANGE, apparently. Microsoft’s Phil Spencer has gone on the record saying the following: “One of our issues with Games with Gold–not ‘issues,’ but differences between the other system we get compared to, is the fact that with Games with Gold, you get to keep that game, regardless of whether you continue to subscribe. And the business around Games with Gold, for us, is just fundamentally different from some of the other programs that are out there, which does put a different financial picture on a–you’re gonna go buy a game that’s brand new, the cost of putting that in, just to be kind of blunt about it.”
Condemn (OR) Condone:
So, essentially, these guys are too flippin’ cheap to give you any good games for free! Is that what I’m hearing, Microsoft? IS THAT WHAT I’M HEARING?! Thought so… thought so.
The judgments are the following:
Condemn – Hate it | (O)r – Dislike it | (OR) – Indifferent | o(R) – Like it | Condone – Love it
