Zombi might not have lit up the market as much as Ubisoft hoped when they brought the low-selling Wii U game to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC this year, but it’s still got a shot at a different market next year. Ubisoft has announced that Zombi will be getting a retail release early next year for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
The game was originally a launch title for the Wii U back in 2012, having the player stalk through the zombie-infested streets of London while trying to stay alive and escape. The re-release this year brought (slightly) enhanced visuals, a new UI to account for the lack of the Wii U’s gamepad, and a variety of other little improvements.
Zombi will release physically for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on January 21st, 2016.
ZombiU is coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC soon, ditching the Wii U and the U in the title. Now, some gameplay footage from the game has been revealed by Ubisoft Australia from the PlayStation 4 version of the game.
As you can see from the video above, the game really doesn’t look any different compared to the Wii U version that released in 2012. While it was passable on that system a few years ago, releasing this as a PlayStation 4 game is really pushing it.
You can download Zombi tomorrow, as it’s available digital only.
Previous reports of Ubisoft bringing the Wii U’s ZombiU to other consoles has now been proven true, as the game is now called Zombi and it’s launching on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC next month. Check out the new trailer for the game directly below.
Ubisoft claims that the game has been optimized for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. I assume they mean the graphics have been touched up a little and the controls have been tweaked to accommodate for the lack of the gamepad.
Zombi will launch on August 18th.
Back when the Wii U released in 2012 it launched with an interesting game called ZombiU. Here we have a mature-rated zombie game coming straight out of the gate with the typically family-friendly Nintendo console, and it actually wasn’t half bad.
However, due to both the Wii U’s low install base and the fact that it wasn’t exactly the type of game to resonate with that said low install base spelled doom for the game. Low sales lead to the planned sequel being axed, and the game was more or less forgotten after a few months.
Still, there is hope for the game as previous rumors suggesting that the game could be coming to other consoles appear to be true. A rating on the Australian classification board for a game called Zombi has popped up, and it’s ratings are identical to ZombiU. The game is currently only listed for Xbox One, but this could very much end up being a multiplatform deal.
