The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt is without question one of the finest games to release this year, and developer CD Projekt RED has released a new trailer for the game that recounts all of the best moments.
The trailer has a lot to show off, displaying everything from glowing reviews, tons of gameplay from the main game and even footage from the Hearts of Stone expansion and the upcoming Iron and Wine expansion. Here’s a description of the video taken from the YouTube description:
“This year was really epic for the entire crew behind The Witcher. We launched Wild Hunt, the RPG we’ve been working on for so long, then we’ve gone above and beyond to give gamers as many free DLC as we could, and then released Hearts of Stone, which – judging from player feedback – took the game even further. And we innovated all along the way — if you compare Wild Hunt to our previous game, almost every element was improved or changed. Now we’re working on Blood and Wine, the final expansion for Wild Hunt which we will launch in 2016.”
The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone may not launch until next week, but that hasn’t stopped developer CD Projekt RED from releasing a launch trailer.
In this expansion, our protagonist Geralt has been hired to take on a bandit with an exceptional name of Olgierd von Everec. Yes, that is a name and it is in this game.
According to the devs, Hearts of Stone will contain around 10 hours of content, including new quests, monsters and even a new romance with Shani.
Hearts of Stone launches on October 13th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and it will cost $8.50.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launched to critical acclaim and followed its launch with a string of free DLC, but now comes the time for its season pass to begin. The first expansion for it is called Hearts of Stone and you can check out the teaser for it below.
This expansion will launch on October 13th, which is set to feature around 10 hours of gameplay. You can play it during the game or after you’ve completed. There will even be a limited edition of the DLC released in certain regions for $19.99, which comes with a download code and two physical sets of Gwent cards.
If you’ve somehow managed to finish playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and are itching for that New Game Plus mode, then I’ve got just the news for you.
The free New Game Plus DLC for the game is now available to download on Xbox One, though PlayStation 4 and PC users will need to wait a little while longer. The waiting time should be very quick, however, as there was never any mention of the DLC coming to one platform before any of the other ones.
Be aware, however, that your precious Gwent Card collection will not carry over from one playthrough to the next. I’m nowhere near finishing this game, so I shouldn’t have to worry about it for a long time. Too… much… content…
The free DLC train for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt continues to roll right along, with the latest (and final) one bringing one of the game’s most request features. CD Projekt RED has confirmed that, as the game’s final DLC package, they will be adding New Game Plus.
Seeing as the mode is not quite finished yet so it won’t be releasing this week as was originally intended, but CD Projekt RED assures they will keep fans regularly updated on its progress. For those who may not know, this mode will allow gamers to carry over all of their stats, items and equipment from a finished file to use at the very beginning of a new game.
The sales numbers of the latest NPD have been released and it reveals some information that isn’t all that surprising. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was the best selling game of the month, but PlayStation 4 was also able to reclaim the #1 console position from Xbox One.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was the only AAA multi-platform game to be released during May, so it really isn’t shocking that it was able to claim the #1 spot. However, even if there was it would have been difficult to top it, as it was recently revealed that the game sold 4 million copies in just two weeks. You can find May 2015’s top 10 best-selling video games directly below.
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Back to the hardware side of things, the PlayStation 4 was the leading platform in both hardware and software. The momentum that the Xbox One had by winning April 2015 was not able to continue, giving the PlayStation 4 back the lead heading into E3. The system has been the best-selling console for all but a few months, with Sony reiterating that the console remains the cumulative sales champion. The PlayStation 4 has now sold over 20 million units worldwide.
Still, things aren’t looking so bad on Xbox’s side of things, as Xbox One’s sales were up 81% over May 2014 and active Xbox Live members were up 20%.
Current-generation hardware sales remain stable, as it was noted that there was just a 1% year-on-year decrease. However, last-generation consoles saw a 45% drop, which is understandable due to more and more games releasing exclusively for current-generation hardware.
Lastly, lets not forget about the portable hardware market, as it was reported that sales were up an impressive 45% in that area. It was also recently reported that the 3DS just topped 15 million sales in the USA, making it the 8th Nintendo handheld to reach that number.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been a massive success right from the get go, and now developer CD Projekt RED has released a fan letter stating just how successful.
The Co-founder of CD Projekt RED, Marcin Iwiński, gave his thanks to the millions of fans for their support via the following letter:
May 19th was a crucial date for all of us here at CD PROJEKT RED — we released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, our open world role-playing game that we had been hard at work on for over 3 years. Since day one, you have given us tons of positive feedback and support — the sheer volume of emails we’ve gotten since launch simply congratulating us for our efforts is both epic and heartwarming, and I wish every developer comes to have such a fantastic community. In terms of media reception, we’re really humbled by the scores the game has received all around the world. With an average of 90+ on every platform, Wild Hunt is our dream coming true.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank the four million gamers worldwide who bought The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the first two weeks from launch. Four million RPG fans spending their hard-earned money on our game is a sign that we did something right, and you can be sure that we’ll harness all that positive energy and make the upcoming expansions worthy of the grand adventure that you’re telling us Wild Hunt already is! Until then, keep on enjoying Wild Hunt, do not forget to grab your weekly set of free DLCs, and stay tuned for constant updates and enhancement to the game we are continuously working on.
Dandelion once said to Geralt that the world is changing, the sun is setting, and vodka’s running out — go, play, and have fun!
All the best,
Co-founder, CD PROJEKT RED”
It’s great to see a game that isn’t a dime-a-dozen Ubisoft game see such immense success immediately, and I can only imagine how much those numbers will climb throughout the year. Well done, CD Projekt RED, well done.
