The Last Guardian Is Actually Happening!

I can’t believe I’m actually writing this, but The Last Guardian is actually happening! Sony kicked off their E3 press conference with a new look at the game that was first announced in 2009 and had been delayed several times since that point.

As for how it looks, it has that ICO feel to it with two interesting characters navigating massive structures with beautiful design. The game will launch exclusively for the PlayStation 4 in 2016. Check out the new gameplay footage below!

Yes, ‘The Last Guardian’ Is Still In Development

The never-ending production will continue!

After the trademark for Sony’s long-in-the-works The Last Guardian was seemingly abandoned, rumors began swirling about the game finally being cancelled. Don’t be alarmed, though, as it has been confirmed that the long production of The Last Guardian will continue.

According to Sony, the abandoned trademark for the game was due to an administrative error on their end, as they apparently just neglected to renew as they had been for years. I guess after several years of doing the same thing over and over again you just become complacent.

The Last Guardian has been in development since 2009 when it was originally a PlayStation 3-exclusive game. However, due to several delays the game was eventually retooled to be a PlayStation 4 game, which lead to even more time being needed for the game to be brought up to snuff. There is still no release window for the game, though many are hoping for something to be shown at this year’s E3.

Is ‘The Last Guardian’ Officially A PlayStation 4 Game Now?

It’s been in development as a PlayStation 3 game for years, but recent comments may be implying that The Last Guardian is headed for PlayStation 4.

So, you probably know of the long-running development time of the The Last Guardian. It was originally announced in 2009 for the PlayStation 3, yet it has seen countless delays and even got to points where many assumed it was cancelled. However, in recent months the game has been getting a lot of buzz as news continues to slowly come out about development going well.

Still, considering this was originally a PlayStation 3 game, would they really stick to a last-gen system now that PlayStation 4 is coming into its own? Well, if a recent quote from game creator Fumito Ueda is to be taken a certain way, then The Last Guardian just might be making the jump to PlayStation 4.

Here’s what Ueda had to say about The Last Guardian in the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation (via Kotaku):

“Talks with Sony Computer Entertainment on The Last Guardian have been ironed out, and we’re making progress under completely new conditions. I’m also working on some other things that I’ll hopefully be able to show in time if progress is smooth.”

Many are assuming that these “completely new conditions” are the fact that the game is now working within the boundaries of the PlayStation 4 and not the PlayStation 3. There’s still the potential that this thing could end up being a cross-gen game, but for such a highly-anticipated game you would think Sony would want it to be a PS4 exclusive. Their 2015 line-up isn’t exactly overflowing with exclusive titles, but add The Last Guardian and things get much more interesting for the system.

Sony Still Planning An “Unannounced PS4 Game” To Release By Year’s End

An unannounced PS4 game is still set to release by year’s end. Hmm…

Sony has revealed their upcoming gaming lineup for the rest of 2014, showcasing both big and small games that are expected to release for the PlayStation 4. However, although we have a clear picture of what there is to expect for the rest of year, there is a secret unannounced game that Sony claims will release by year’s end.

What could it be? I know that there is a tiny spot in all of us that is screaming at the top of our lungs for The Last Guardian to finally be released, but would Sony really just release a game of that caliber without the fanfare from E3 or similar conventions? Well, I guess it would make the scenario all the more shocking…

The Last Guardian May Finally Have Something To Guard… Soon?

The Scoop:

The Last Guardian has been taking a really flippin’ long time to finally show up and guard something, but according to Famitsu that wait may finally be coming to an end.

Dualshockers reports that Famitsu contacted Sony in regards to The Last Guardian’s release date, and they were essentially told that Sony was waiting for the best time to reintroduce the game into the gaming world again. They claim that development is moving along very well right now, and that a release date may be announced soon.

Condemn (OR) Condone:

There’s a phrase that I’m trying to think of that relates to this… OH YES! I’ve heard that one before! At this point, I’ve convinced myself that The Last Guardian is actually the universe’s greatest conspiracy theory involving a giant dog sent to protect the worlds from an alien invasion. So, in other words, give me proof and then we’ll talk. My judgment is (O).
