Capcom Confirms Resident Evil 2 Remake Being Built From Ground Up

Fans were thrilled when it was revealed earlier this year that Resident Evil 2 would be getting remade, though there was some lingering confusion for some people. Seeing as we are currently in the HD remaster craze of every past game getting brought to a current-generation system with shinier graphics, some were thinking that would be the same case with Resident Evil 2 due to how it was worded in a recent Capcom investors report..

However, even though Remake and Remaster are two very different things, Capcom has gone on record saying that the Resident Evil 2 Remake will be built from the ground up. Stuart Turner took to twitter to clarify the situation by posting the following:

The Resident Evil 2 Remake does not have a release window, but it is expected to be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The Resident Evil 2 Remake Is Officially Happening

Recently Capcom has been teasing the potential of a full remake of the classic Resident Evil 2, and now it has been confirmed that it’s actually happening.

Yoshiaki Hirabyashi posted a video update on YouTube where he revealed the news, saying that the game will officially begin production. He says that it will be a while before we’ll hear any updates from the project, but they will continue to interact with fans directly on the game’s progress.

Capcom Wants Your Opinion On A Remake Of Resident Evil 2

The remake of the original Resident Evil remains, in my opinion, the best video game remake of all-time. The game got a complete overhaul from its graphics, gameplay and voice acting and it blew me out of the water back when it released for the GameCube. However, Resident Evil 2 & 3 never got the remake treatment and are the ones that need it the most.

Resident Evil 2 Remake

Well, Capcom is thinking about remaking Resident Evil 2 and they want to know your opinion on the matter. They have posted a message on Facebook that says the following:

Hello Resident Evil fans!
This is Capcom R&D Division 1!

First off, we would like to express our deepest appreciation to all Resident Evil fans, for your passion, enthusiasm and continued support for the Resident Evil brand.

Enthusiasm for a Resident Evil 2 Remake is something we’ve been hearing from you over the years, and has drawn some recent attention in the media.

However, as the team owns the RE brand, we’re not certain how we feel about this approach, and would like to ask your honest and frank opinion about the “Resident Evil 2 Remake” and what the brand identity is supposed to be about?

So, if you have a Facebook account please follow the link right here and tell Capcom that we all want a remake of Resident Evil 2 done in the way the Resident Evil 1 remake was done. Don’t change the gameplay to reflect the more recent games in the series, but keep that creepy and claustrophobic atmosphere that the original games all had.
