The original Ratchet & Clank games are classics and remain so to this day, but that doesn’t mean that they haven’t started to show their age a little. Seeing as the first game is set to be getting a remake (or re-imagining, whatever the heck that means) next year, a video has been uploaded to YouTube that pits the two different versions of the game side-by-side.
Needles to say, the results are jaw-dropping.
The original version of the game came out in 2002 and the remake will be out in 2016, so it’s obvious that there’s going to be a big graphical upgrade. However, when you see them side-by-side like this it really gives you a grasp on how far the technology has come over a relatively brief period of time.

“While you might have to wait a bit longer than expected, rest assured we’re using the time wisely to further polish the game to a spit-shine level.”
On the movie side of things, the voice actors for the movie were also revealed and are the following:
Paul Giamatti as Drek
John Goodman as Grimroth
Bella Thorne as Cora
Rosario Dawson as Elaris
Sylvester Stallone as Victor Von Iron
The voice actors for the original characters from the games will all be reprising their roles for the movie, as well.
This latest Ratchet & Clank game is set to be a re-imagining of the first game in the series as it retells the origin story of Ratchet & Clank. The game will feature revamped levels, new levels and new weapons.
The Ratchet & Clank movie will release on April 29th, 2016, though an exact release date for the game has not been confirmed at this time.
Save $20 on one of last year’s best games and check out the trailer for the game’s final DLC.
Insomniac Games’ Sunset Overdrive was one of the most pleasant surprises of last year, providing a ridiculous world packed to the brim with personality and wit. It definitely wasn’t the biggest hit, though, so maybe its new price point of $39.99 will lure in some newcomers.
There’s also a new trailer for the final DLC for the game called Dawn of the Rise of the Fallen Machines, which you can check out below.
Sunset Overdrive launched exclusively for the Xbox One in October of 2014.
By the end of the week we could potentially have our first look at the PS4’s re-imagining of the original Ratchet & Clank.
When Insomniac Games announced that they would be re-imagining the original Ratchet & Clank game for PS4 at last year’s E3, it was a move that just about everyone was excited for. However, in the time that has come and gone since that announcement there has been nothing else to report.
However, that could all change by the end of this week. I say this as Insomniac Games community lead James Stevenson posted a thread on their official forums that was intended for “LA-Based Ratchet Fans”. In the thread he inquires whether or not fans will be available on Friday, February 27th in LA around noon for some kind of event.
I seriously hope that this ends up being the case, as I’m very excited to see Ratchet & Clank back in the mix this year. A movie that supposedly ties in with the game is also coming out this year, with the movie set to launch sometime around Summer. It’s unknown if both the game and movie are planned to release around the same time, but with any kind of tie-ins that is usually the case and would make sense.
Expect a new direction for Ratchet & Clank in 2015.
Ratchet & Clank is a series that has endured for quite a long time for Sony, beginning back on the PlayStation 2 and going strong ever since. However, the most recent installments haven’t exactly re-invented the wheel in terms of gameplay. With news that a brand new Ratchet & Clank game would be a PlayStation 4 exclusive, many are wondering what kind of a game it will be.
That’s why developer Insomniac Games took to twitter by responding to some of the questions that fans have about this newest adventure for Ratchet & Clank. When questioned about the news that this new game would just be a remake of the first Ratchet & Clank game, the developers replied with the following:
“It’s a complete re-imagining. NOT a remake.”
When another fan asked if this means the series is being rebooted, they responded with the following:
“Not a reboot. Re-imagining of the original game and ties in with the Ratchet & Clank movie.”
The developers are not willing to say when exactly this game will be coming out, but they seem to be denying that it will be coming in the first quarter of 2015. However, seeing as the game will tie-in with the upcoming movie that is also set to launch early next year, I would think that the release dates of both titles wouldn’t be that far apart from each other. Honestly, as long as they don’t release a half-assed game that is typical of many tie-in properties I’ll be happy.
New content is on the way for Insomniac Games’ Sunset Overdrive, though the developers are letting the fans pick the details. New costumes and weapons are on the horizon for the Xbox One exclusive, and fan feedback will decide not only which weapons and costumes will be featured in the DLC, but it will also be worked into future story-related DLC.
Voting will be open every second week through the Sunset TV series, which you can access in the game at certain areas. First up is a choice between Buck National and Floyd costumes, and the winning character’s outfits will be available to all players for free. As mentioned previously, this will lead to a story DLC, which is currently set to be released early next year.
Check out the video below for all of the juicy details, and be sure to head into Sunset City to cast your vote!
Xbox Live Gold members will be getting an awesome treat tomorrow, as it has been revealed that they will be able to play the awesome Sunset Overdrive absolutely free. The news was released on Major Nelson’s blog, where he announced that you’ll be able to play the game for free for 24 hours starting at midnight as part of the ongoing celebration of the Xbox One’s first year on the market.
Downloading the 23 GB file will get you the full game including the ability to unlock achievements. When the time runs out, should you decide to purchase the game you will be able to pick up where you left off. I recently finished Sunset Overdrive and have a review in the works, so let me just say that it is definitely worth checking out.
Sunset Overdrive is developed by Insomniac Games exclusively for the Xbox One.
