The Star Wars: Battlefront Beta Begins On October 8

We’re getting closer and closer to the release of Star Wars: Battlefront, but even before that we’ll be getting a taste of it in the form of a beta.

The open beta for Star Wars: Battlefront will begin on October 8 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC and will run until October 12. The beta will include the following 3 modes:

Walker Assault on Hoth: A 40-player battle where you control a Rebel as you try to destroy the Empire’s onslaught of AT-AT’s by calling in Y-wing bombers. You can also side with the Empire instead and protect your walkers while utilizing their weaponry to crush the Rebels like bugs.

Drop Zone on Sullust: You and your team fight to control escape pods as they come crashing down in this 8v8 battle where both strategy and combat prowess are needed equally.

Survival Mission on Tatooine: Battle waves of Imperial forces such as AT-STs, TIE fighters, stormtroopers and more in this hectic mode that can be played alone or with a friend via co-op or split-screen.

Star Wars: Battlefront launches for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 17.

Dragon Age: Inquisition Game Of The Year Edition Announced

Last year’s multi-game-of-the-year winner, Dragon Age: Inquisition, will be getting a Game of the Year Edition, BioWare and Electronic Arts have announced.

As is to be expected, Dragon Age: Inquisition – Game of the Year Edition will come with the same base game plus all DLC. The game has had 3 DLC packs released for it post-launch, so if you haven’t yet picked up the game this wouldn’t be a bad time to do it.

The beta will be available to take part in on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in the early days of October and will feature 40-person battles on Hoth. There will also be a survival mission on Tatooine, which is most easily compared to the typical horde mode gametype.

There will also be a brand new mode called Drop Zone that is set to make its debut in the beta, though more information on that won’t be revealed until the beta draws nearer.

While news on how you can actually get into the beta has not been announced yet, you can sign up for more information by clicking right here.

EA’s Excuse For No Story Mode In Star Wars Battlefront Is Lame

The initial announcement and reveal of Star Wars Battlefront got a lot of people excited to jump back into the world of Star Wars in video game form. However, that excitement was quickly tempered with the announcement that the game would feature no single player campaign. Both previous games in the series had them, and considering this will be a full price game the omission is jarring.

Of course, the game’s main emphasis is multiplayer, and while what we’ve seen of it does look impressive, many still can’t shake that disappointment of no single player. EA’s Peter Moore had a conversation with GameSpot where he briefly discusses the decision to omit single player, claiming that the decision was a response to the direction that gaming is going. Apparently they feel that video games are becoming more multiplayer-centric and that it’s the most important thing to focus on.

GameSpot’s interviewer countered that by stating that the lack of singleplayer is strange, considering that most video games containing both singleplayer and multiplayer sell better compared to games that contain just one or the other. Moore replied with the following:

“Very few people actually play the single-player on these kind of games. That’s what the data points to.”

While I agree that the reason that people come back to these types of games is the multiplayer, I don’t think saying very few people play the single player is fair. Many people were also upset with a lack of a single player campaign for Titanfall, and that game has become a ghost town. Single player tends to be what I remember most even in games like Call of Duty, as I feel like it’s the main course of the package while the multiplayer is the desert that keeps you coming back for seconds, thirds, fourths and so on. With a series that has a lore that is as expansive as Star Wars it’s very disappointing to know that there will be no story to get swept up in, and completely dropping that part of the package due to so-called trends is lame.

Still, I can’t judge a game until I’ve played it and I’m hoping that the game will deliver a multiplayer experience so expansive that it will make the lack of singleplayer easier to swallow. Star Wars Battlefront is set to launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 17th, 2015.

Mass Effect Andromeda Won’t Feature Any Characters From Previous Games

Everyone got their first look at Mass Effect Andromeda at EA’s E3 2015 press conference, though it really didn’t give anyone a solid idea of what to expect. It was a CG trailer that gave us a look at our protagonist suited up, but no look at gameplay or its context compared to the original trilogy.

Mass Effect Andromeda

Well, thanks to a brief interaction with a fan on twitter, Andromeda‘s senior development director, Chris Wynn, has dropped a revealing nugget of info. When asked if whether or not fans could expect to see characters from previous games in the series, he replied that “story wise, it wouldn’t make sense.”

While this lets us know that the game will not be continuing the exploits of Commander Shepard, it doesn’t tell us when this game takes place in the series’ timeline. We know that it’s set during the era of Commander Shepard, but if no familiar faces are to be found then it must take place in a galaxy far, far away.

Mass Effect Andromeda is set to launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC sometime in 2016.

Star Wars: Battlefront Gameplay Trailer Is Impressive… Most Impressive

In the trailer we see a massive battle that’s happening on the planet Hoth, and we see just about every Star Wars character and vehicle we could want. Check out the trailer below.
