Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain won some awards last night at The Game Awards 2015, but the game’s creator Hideo Kojima was nowhere to be found. However, Kojima had every intention of going to the ceremony, but he was blocked from going at the last minute by Konami.
Geoff Keighley made the announcement to let everyone know of the situation at the ceremony. Here’s what he said:
“As you noticed, Hideo Kojima is not here with us tonight and I wanted to tell you a little bit about that. Mr. Kojima had every intention of being with us tonight, but unfortunately he was informed by a lawyer representing Konami just recently that he would not be allowed to travel to tonight’s award ceremony to accept any awards.”
It’s absolutely ridiculous that somebody would do something like this, however, seeing as it is Konami I can’t say it’s the most surprising thing ever. The only thing this accomplishes is making people hate that company even more. #FucKonami
