Square Enix Claims Tomb Raider Xbox One Exclusivity “Wasn’t An Easy Decision”

Rise of the Tomb Raider

It took Square Enix long enough to finally reveal the full details on Crystal Dynamics’ Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusivity on Xbox One, but that did nothing to change the fact that many fans are pissed.

Now, Square Enix CEO Phil Rogers has come out to try and douse the flames a bit in detailing why this deal happened in the first place. Here’s what Rogers said in an interview with Examiner:

“We’re about growing our IP, this is a long-term decision. We’re going to take Tomb Raider up to the next level. With Microsoft’s belief, passion and sort of muscle to help us deliver, we really think this is going to be an awesome game that people will enjoy for years and years to come.”

Microsoft really must have made a big investment in this series to convince Square Enix to give them console exclusivity for a full year, especially considering that they would stand to make far more sales-wise if it were exclusive to PlayStation 4. I guess time will tell if this whole thing was worth it or not once the game releases later this year.
