Here’s What Sony Has To Say On Possible PlayStation 4 Backwards Compatibilty

PlayStation 4 backwards compatibilty

One of Microsoft’s biggest announcements during their E3 press conference was the announcement of backwards compatibility on the Xbox One for Xbox 360 games. So, of course, many people are wondering if the PlayStation 4 may ever get something similar for PlayStation 3 games.

Well, speaking with Eurogamer,┬áSony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida claims that there is nothing in the cards for PlayStation 4 to follow suit. He mentions that he was very surprised that Microsoft was able to do it in the first place. Here’s a snippet of what he said:

“I didn’t think it was possible. There must be lots of engineering effort. They talked about 100 games, but what kind of games will be included? Is it smaller games or big games? We don’t know.”

He goes on to say that the reason backwards compatibility would be so difficult is a result of the PlayStation 3’s “unique architecture”. ┬áSo, it doesn’t look this will be coming anytime soon, if at all. Bummer!
